How To Keep Skin Hydrated This Summer!

So many things are fun to do this summer, however, too much sun and heat brings so many potential abuses to our skin making it appear dull and lifeless.  With just a few simple tricks, you can still look and feel fresh and glowing without suffering from ugly, dehydrated skin.  Since our skin contains mostly water, any significant amounts of loss in  the body’s water volume in a day can lead to problems of mild dehydration.  Therefore, drinking several litres of water a day could still make the skin dehydrated caused by a number of both external and internal factors such as high temperature, humidity, intense UV radiation, ageing, consuming alcohol and caffeinated drinks, or hormonal problems.  Here are some helpful tips to keep your skin looking hydrated and glowing all summer:

EXFOLIATE REGULARLY - In the summer, exfoliate at least 2-3x a week to remove dead skin and improve circulation to the face.  Exfoliating helps absorb the beneficial ingredients that you can get from your facial moisturizer since it sloughs away the layers of oil and dead skin that coats the outer layer of our skin.

TAKE COLD SHOWERS - When the temperatures are rising, long, hot showers tends to dry out our skin, while cold showers tightens the pores which prevents them from getting clogged and repairs sunburnt skin cells.

MOISTURIZE IN THE MORNING AND AT NIGHT - It is very important to keep skin hydrated both day and night because dry skin is more susceptible to wrinkles and sun damage.  In the morning, use an oil-free and sweat-free moisturizer that contains a SPF while at night, use an oil-based, nutrient-filled products to soak up the benefits while you are off to dreamland.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER - Drinking plenty of water hydrates the body, is low in calories and sugar-free so you can never go wrong with it. Because of the heat, so much fluid is lost by our body through sweat therefore, it is very important to remain hydrated.

SNACK ON FRESH OR FROZEN BERRIES - Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries are great for healing dry skin.  Rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, berries help protect our skin from damage while repairing cells and they are very hydrating to the skin!  You can eat them fresh or add frozen berries to whip up your favorite smoothie anytime of the day.
